The Song of Ice and Fire - House Lannister

Looking for Dance with Dragons? Just check this post

First of all, I've found these funny southparked families: House Stark
Arya-Catelyn-Sansa-Eddard-Robb-Hodor Bran Rickon-Jon Snow

Today's House Lannister:
Tyrion-Tywin-Jaime-Cersey- Joffrey-Myrcella-Tommen

Late King Robert's House Baratheon:
Melissandre-Stannis-Robert-Renly-the shadow

And now, let's go with House Lannister, notorious villains, bad boys of the series:

Tywin Lannister: Lord of Casterly Rock, Shield of Lannisport and Warden of the West, ruthless and controlling fifty-something years old. I cannot imagine sweet Charles Dance as  "never smiles" cruel Tywin

Jaime Lannister: Younger twin to Cersei, inmensely talented swordman and warrior since youth and the sexiest male in the series, shameless and wicked villain as he is, is to be played by Nikolaj Coster Waldau. We'll see what he is able to do with this magnificent miscreant character (not that bad-looking, though :)

Tyrion Lannister is the third Lannister brother and he's not spared a single insult throughout the book: Halfman, Imp, dwarf, ... Nevertheless, he's the only Lannister endowed with something similar to feelings, and is full of cunning and brains. The choice here was almost evident because of his height: Peter Dinklage

Ummm, I have the feeling I'm forgettin someone but...

Ok, ok, yes, she, the one, the desirable quintessential evil bitch, make way for...

Cersei Lannister: Robert's wife and Queen, Jaime's... sister, everyone's dream (sometimes nightmare)

Lena Headey will play Cersei. Can you imagine her dyed blonde?

The Song of Ice and Fire - House Stark

Looking for Dance with Dragons? Just check this post

House Stark is the principal noble house in the North; many lesser houses are sworn to them. Their seat is Winterfell. Their sigil is a grey direwolf on a field of white, and their house motto, referred to in-universe as their words, is "Winter Is Coming."

Eddard (Ned) Stark is lord of Winterfell, and in the first book of the series is offered the post of new Hand of the King in order to fulfill his duty to the Iron Throne in King Landing.

Eddard Stark will be played by Sean Bean in the HBO adaption of the books. He's the unforgettable Boromin in LOTR film, the one who all of us girls think should have played Aragorn, son of Arathorn, bla, bla, bla.

His wife, Catelyn Stark, maiden name Cately Tully so... we'll now more about her when talking about house Tully

They have five children: Robb, Sansa, Arya, Bran and Rickon. Ned also claims a bastard son, Jon Snow.

Robb Stark will be played by Richard Madden

Sansa Stark: talented and beautilful, betrothed to prince Joffrey Baratheon. As with most of major characters, her age has been changed in the HBO series in order to avoid problems and scandal. It can't be forgotten that girls and boys younger the 13 are violated, abused, ill-treated and killed all over this book, they give birth and suffer from miscarriage, so better make them age quickly before putting them on TV for everyone to see. She's to be played by Sophie Turner

Arya Stark is the spirited one, interested in swords and fighting. Her HBO alter ego will be Maisie Williams

Bran Stark is a very important character in the first book, cause it's him who discovers Lannister twins' secret and who suffers to be broken because of it

Rickon Stark: Eddard's younger son, only three years old at the begin of the series. I don't think the actor who's going to play his role has been chosen yet,

And Jon Snow, the bastard, who will be sent to the Wall and will be part of the Night's Watch, a one of my favourite characters, good natured and generous.

The Song of Ice and Fire - George R.R. Martin

George R.R. Martin, born in 1948, comic book fan and collector, full-time writer since 1979 is a member of Science Fiction & Fantasy Writers of America. Best known because of this series, he has also published some other novels and short stories and has won several Hugo Awards and Nebula Awards. Critics has described his work as dark and cynical with multi-faceted characters with intricate pasts, inspirations and ambitions. This series sure is hard as hell, partial as he is to sacked castles, bloody battles, dirty betrayals, public executions, assassinations, multiple violations and corpses left rotting everywhere. How HBO is going to manage with some deeply disgusting parts of the series is a mistery but, to start, they have modified the age of some major characters in the book in order to avoid complaints about children abuse.

Martin began writing The Song of Ice & Fire in 1991. The series consists of the following books published by Bantam:

1.- The Game of Thrones
2.- A Clash of Kings
3.- A Storm of Swords
4.- A Feast for Crows
5.- A Dance with Dragons (waiting yet for the Paperback edition)

and forthcoming (be patient, we've have to wait five long years for the fifth book in the series to be released)

6.- The Winds of Winter
7.- A Dream of Spring

A Game of Thrones is the first book in the series and the title refers to a phrase in a crucial-for-the-plot conversation between the Queen, Cersei Lannister and the King's Hand and Lord of Winterfell, Eddard Stark. It's in the middle of the confrontation (chapter 48) when she says what can be considered like the axis of the series: "“When you play the game of thrones, you win or you die. There is no middle ground.”. In this book, King Robert Baratheon arrives in Winterfell to ask his friend Eddard to be the Hand of the King and he reluctantly agrees. Eddard's sister in law, recent widow of the previous Hand sends a letter to Eddard stating that his husband was murdered by the Queen. Eddard's middle son Bran spies the Queen and her brother Jaime and discovers their secret. Jaime throws him out of the tower window but Bran survives. At King's landing, Eddard understand Cersei Lannister's betrayal and confronts her. He mercifully offers Cersei the chance to flee but King Robert dies of a suspicious hunting mishap, and Cersei's eldest son Joffrey is crowned King and Eddard is captured. A great number of complex characters parade through the pages of this book: Tyrion Lannister, Cersei and Jaime's brother, a misshapen dwarf nicknamed "The Imp" and "Halfman", nevertheless endowed with great cunning and a keen wit. Jon Snow, Eddard Stark's bastard son and his legitimate ones: Robb, the eldest; Sansa, the beautiful and perfect one; her untamed sister Arya; Bran, crippled after the fall from the tower and little Rickon, only three years old.

Meanwhile, in the Wall, Jon Snow joins the Night's Watch and destroys with fire two wights, corpses re-animated, outpost of the monstruous army that is to come. At the same time, across the sea in the east, the exiled Prince Viserys Targaryen conspires to sell his thirteen-year-old sister Daenerys to Khal Drogo of the Dothraki planning to use Drogo's army to conquer his lost kingship.

One more blog about fantasy and science fiction?

Just that. One more blog. With luck, you will find here a special book, one you didn't know of but you'll arrive to love. This is my hope and my goal.

But... why English? Because I try and read in English as often as possible in order to improve it and not to lose what I once studied, and as a tribute to a very dear friend, not anymore among us, but always in our most precious memories, he who lent me some of my now favourite books and encouraged me to choose the rest for myself. Rob, whatever you're reading now up there, save a copy for me, my taste is so much better now, you'd be proud of me and, after all, it's mainly because of you.

I'll start with "the Song of Ice & Fire" and I have a reason: I'm anxiously waiting for "Dance with Dragons" in paperback but I don't know if I'll be able to resist temptation much more time, I'm almost sure I will surrender and buy the hardcover edition even if my shelves are on the verge of overflow and my purse not too buoyant. In fact, there are two reasons, cause HBO is preparing a television series based on this award-winning epic fantasy novels and most of the casting has already been revealed. Stay with me in this trip among worlds. Even if I disappoint you, these worlds will not.
